Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway

A Global Corridor will be developed along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway for sectors specific parks and sub–cities so that the economic activities do not spill over, rather they are located in a systematic manner.
The length of KMP expressway is 135 KM and it passes through six districts of Haryana namely Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal. The 100 meter wide expressway will have green belt of 100 meter each on both sides with 100 meter wide Orbital Rail Corridor towards Delhi. The Commissioner of Gurgaon Division DPS Nagal had a meeting recently with the Deputy Commissioners of all the six districts through which KMP expressway is passing and he asked them to work out a cumulative plan envisaging all aspects of development along the expressway. The natural contours for flow of water should also be kept in mind before finalizing the plan, he emphasized. The meeting was held at Gurgaon.
The project named Global Corridor was being prepared to provide opportunity for different specialized sectors of economy to place them in a planned area with world class facilities, in the vicinity of national capital, and having proper linkages with the capital. Looking at the experience of National Capital Region (NCR) and unabated growth of Delhi, a need of a global corridor was felt along the KMP expressway with state of art facilities which can act as catalysts for development and attract private participation in the development of region.
The spatial plan of the corridor would be developed around a number of specialized economic activities which can trigger and sustain economic growth. Each lead economic activity is envisaged to be the focus of a self sustaining specialized and independent cluster city. A number of such cluster cities integrated under one umbrella will provide the over all spatial form of the urban corridor. In between these nodes, recreational, forest and green areas will also be developed. According to a senior officer of Gurgaon district administration, the development of cluster cities would be governed by the threshold population required for sustaining the physical and social infrastructure. He told that the focus of the spatial plan for KMP Global Corridor has been on determining the optimum use of land in the two KM wide stretch falling on both sides of the expressway. However, while finalizing the development proposals, emphasis has been on freezing the land use of the entire area forming part of the controlled area towards Delhi border and formulating viable development proposals based on Worldwide Study of such corridors and deciding an appropriate location and size of such cities.
In Gurgaon district, five theme cities have been proposed in the plan. These include fashion city, entertainment city, World trade center, leisure city and Retail Merchandiser Warehouse Center. Similarly, district Sonipat will have specialized activities like Rajeev Gandhi Education city, Sonepat-Kundli Multifunctional urban complex and HSIIDC is contemplating an IMT at Kharkhoda. Likewise in district Jhajjar, a cyber city, bio-sciences city and Medicity were proposed. In Mewat, Leisure and Leather cities were proposed. In Palwal district, a Dryport city has been proposed.
